Junior season (2001)
Developed into one of the Tigers top half-milers, posting the top 800-meter time by an LSU runner during the indoor season, a time of 1:51.59ot at the SEC Championships … The time narrowly missed placing him in both the final at the SEC Championships and just missed a spot in the top 10 in LSU history … Also picked up a key role in the Tigers’ distance medley relay during the indoor season due to his ability to run either the 400 or 800-meter legs … The Tigers finished fourth in the event at the SEC Championships … During the outdoor season he opened with his top outing of the season, clocking a respectable 1:52.86 at the SEC Triangular at Bernie Moore Track Stadium … Ran a sub-four minute 1,500 at the USC Invitational in Los Angeles, coming up with a time of 3:59.97.
Sophomore season (2000)
Posted LSU’s best 800-meter time during the indoor season, clocking a 1:53.26 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville … Just missed matching the time at Iowa State Track Classic, running a 1:53.96 and then in the prelims of the SEC Indoor Championships where he ran 1:53.32 … Helped the Tigers to a seventh place finish in the DMR at the SEC Indoor Championships, running the 800-meter leg of the squad that ran a time of 10:00.40 … During the outdoor season he posted the second fastest half mile time by a Tiger, running a 1:51.86 in the preliminary round of the SEC Outdoor Championships … Ran the opening leg of the Tigers’ 4×1,500-meter relay team at the Texas Relays which finished 11th in a time of 16:17.35.
Freshman season (1999)
A solid contributor who developed into a consistent half-miler during the indoor season … Ran a season-best time of 1:55.57 in the 800 at the LSU Last Ditch, the second-fastest time registered by a Tiger during the 1999 indoor campaign … Came up with a solid 4:21.84 in the preliminary rounds of the mile at the SEC Indoor Championships in Gainesville, Fla. … Ran his best half-mile time of the season outdoors at the Sea Ray Relays, a time of 1:54.37 … Was a member of the Tigers’ 4×1,500 meter relay team team that finished fifth at the Texas Relays, running the second leg … Opened the outdoor season with a fifth place finish in the 800 at the SEC Quadrangular in New Orleans in a time of 1:56.98, then placed sixth at the U.S. Collegiate Track & Field Series meet in Baton Rouge the following week with his second-best outing of the season, a 1:54.99
Redshirt Freshman Season (1998)
Redshirted and did not compete during the track season… Had a solid cross country season in the Fall of 1998, helping the Tigers to their first top five team finish since 1989.
Prep career
Was a member of three Outdoor State Champion teams while attending Catholic High School in Baton Rouge … The Bears also won one cross country and one indoor state title with Martin on the squad … He was the 1996 5A cross country State Champion, the 1997 Indoor State Champion in the 800-meter run and the 1997 Outdoor State Champion in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs … In addition, he was also on three state champion 4×800-meter relay teams during his high school career… Martin was named the Advocate Star of Stars in cross country in 1997 and the top student athlete for the Catholic High class of 1997.
