SENIOR SEASON (2023-24)
Invited to participate at the 2024 NCAA Championships in the 100-breast (25th – 52.29) and 200-breast (38th – 1:57.13)… Broke the LSU school record in the 100-breast at the 2024 SEC meet with a time of 51.77… Also a member of both medley relays that had broken records in 2024 – the 200-medley relay (1:23.37) & the 400-medley relay (3:06.08)… Opened up his senior season at Utah by winning the 100-breast and the 200-breast with respective times of 55.17 and 2:03.19; also placed fifth in the 200-IM with a time of 1:55.15… In a tri-team meet with FSU and Alabama, won the 100-breast with a time of 54.60 and second in the 200-breast with a time of 2:01.02; also placed fifth in the 200-IM with a time of 1:51.98… At the Tiger’s midseason meet in the Art Adamson Invite, placed 12th in the 200-IM (1:48.05), fourth in the 100-breast (52.19), and ninth in the 200-breast (1:54.82)… Against Texas A&M, he won the 100-breast (52.76), placed second in the 200-breast (1:56.17), and claimed seventh in the 200-IM (1:51.35)… At Tennessee, won the 100-breast (53.20) and 200-breast (1:58.65); placed fourth in the 200-IM (1:51.23)… At the 2024 SEC Championships, placed 32nd in the 200-IM (1:47.12), fifth in the 100-breast (51.82), and 14th in the 200-breast (1:56.85)
JUNIOR SEASON (2022-23)
In a dual meet against South Carolina, won both the 100-yard breaststroke in 55.12 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:02.32…swam the second leg on the second-place finishing 200-yard medley relay team that clocked in at 1:29.48. For a tri-meet with Denver and Air Force, won both the 100-yard breaststroke in 55.33 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:04.72…swam the third leg on the fourth-place finishing 400-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 3:08.11…swam the second leg on the 200-yard medley relay that posted a time of 1:30.04… Against Auburn, claimed second in the 100-breast with a time of 54.91, third in the 200-breast with a time of 2:02.68 and fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.24… In a consecutive dual meet with Alabama, placed second in the 100-breast with a time of 54.85 and fourth in the 200-breast with a time of 2:02.35… At the Tigers’ midseason meet, claimed eighth place in the 100-breast (53.44 – Prelims: 53.33), 11th in the 200-breast (1:58.81), and 25th in the 200-IM (1:47.82)… Against FSU, had two second-place finishes in the 100-breast (54.44) and 200-breast (2:02.53)… In the regular-season finale vs. Texas A&M, won the 100-breast with a time of 54.61; he also placed second in the 200-breast (2:00.85) and fourth in the 200-IM (1:52.72)… At the 2023 SEC Championships, claimed 36th in the 200-IM (1:46.68), 12th in the 100-breast (52.22), and 17th in the 200-breast (1:54.65)… At the Texas A&M Last Chance Meet, he broke his school record in the 100-breast with a time of 52.05
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2021-22)
Won the 100-yard breaststroke in the first meet of the year against Grand Canyon with a time of 54.97; participated on the first-place finishing 200-yard medley relay… At the Rocky Mountain Invitational, finished first in the 100-yard breast with a time of 55.45… Against Alabama, won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:01.96 and placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.50, and placed fifth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:53.44… At the Art Adamson Invitational, took eighth place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.43 and 11th place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:58.08; also finished in 13th place for the 200-IM with a time of 1:47.44… Against Texas A&M, had a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.66 and third place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:03.48… At the SEC Championships, finished in 35th place in the 200-IM with a time of 1:47.45, 29th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:58.95 and seventh place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 52.46
FRESHMAN SEASON (2020-21)
Against Alabama to start the season, finished in fifth place in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 56.93 and sixth place in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:08.80… At the Art Adamson Invitational, finished in third place in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with the eighth-best time in LSU history, a 53.69, and then finished in eighth place in the 200-Yard Breaststroke and 13th place in the 200-Yard IM with times of 1:59.18 and 1:50.81…Against Florida State University he won the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 54.56, finished second in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:01.79 and finished fifth in the 200-Yard IM with a time of 1:51.89…Against Texas A&M he finished third in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 55.60, third in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:03.63, and fourth in the 200-Yard IM with a time of 1:53.64… Earned his spot on the All-SEC Freshman Team after finishing in fourth place in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 52.32, a school record, at the 2021 SEC Championships… Also at the championships, finished in 23rd place in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a personal best time of 1:57.73… Qualified for the NCAA Championships in both breaststroke events… At the 2021 NCAA Championships, finished in 21st place in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 52.35, and 28th place in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:55.10, the second-fastest time in school history… Earned a spot in Wave II of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials with a qualifying time of 1:01.49 in the 100-meter breaststroke
PRIOR TO LSU
Lettered four years at Clear Lake High School… Was the 2019-2020 State Champion in the 100 Breaststroke… Named a 2020 NISCA All-American… Named 2019 Texas First Team All-State… School record holder in the 100 Breast and the 200 IM… Also played Water Polo at Clear Lake… For his club team, was a 2019 Winter Junior Finalist in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke… Six-Time team record holder.
PERSONAL
Full name is Mitchell Keith Mason… Born on August 26, 2002… Parents are Jonathon and Christie Mason… Has one sister, Meredith, and one brother, Marshall… Member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and was a PLTW Honors Recipient… Chose LSU because of the overall atmosphere from the team during practice, and the amazingly talented coaching staff… “Everyone I met was so welcoming. The team is always excited and ready to work hard in the pool and is super fun to be around. The coaching staff brings an awesome energy to the pool deck that gets everyone swimming fast…” Majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
