One of the qualifying athletes, Spencer Daily, competed in the NCAA Championship’s 50-yard freestyle and won.

With extensive college experience under his belt, Kumbier served as the head coach for Allegheny College, where it was his task to oversee all aspects of team development and recruiting. Before taking the head coaching job, he served as the assistant coach while leading the recruiting efforts.

Kumbier attended Kenyon College and won the Division-III National Championship three years in a row. He had five qualifying performances in the NCAA postseason in the 100-breaststroke and the 200-breaststroke. He graduated with a BA in mathematics with a minor in Studio Art. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Kumbier attended the University of Missouri, where he earned a master’s of education with an emphasis in counseling psychology and a focus in positive and sport psychology.
