Anne Shawhan enters her fourth year as an assistant coach for the Tigers after serving in the same capacity the previous three seasons. The 30-year-old has been a valuable asset in rekindling the success of the program.

Shawhan specializes in the development and training of LSU’s stroke and distance swimmers. In 2007, she helped guide the men’s and women’s teams to their highest Southeastern Conference Championship finishes since 2001 and 2002, respectively while also playing a pivotal part in the Lady Tigers’ 17th-place showing at the NCAA Championships.

Before joining the LSU staff in the summer of 2004, Shawhan served an assistant coach at her alma mater of Florida State. In her three seasons there, the Brampton, Canada, native helped guide the Florida State women’s team to a top-20 national finish and also led the men’s and women’s squads to top-three finishes at the ACC Championships. During her tenure, the Seminoles produced four Olympians and numerous school record holders.

Shawhan had a unique opportunity to work at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., following college graduation. She gained unlimited experience working as an intern for the Director of College Marketing, as well as aiding the college account managers and field representatives involved in all team aspects of Nike. Her success was evident when she was immediately hired as the Marketing Assistant Coordinator for the sales department following the completion of her internship.

Shawhan began swimming at a young age, which finally led her to a scholarship at Florida State in 1996. As a Seminole, she became one of the most prolific swimmers in school history, earning All-America status five times during her four-year career. She captured All-America honors three times in 2000 as a member of three freestyle relay teams. She earned her first All-America honor in 1997 in the 200 individual medley.

Shawhan recently continued her athletic career as a triathlete in the Ironman Florida contest on Nov. 5, 2005. She graduated from Florida State in 2000, earning a bachelor’s degree in sports management and is married to George Shawhan. The couple has a newborn baby girl, Madeleine.
