Don Redden was the driving force behind LSU’s 1986 Final Four run. In the 1986 NCAA tournament, Redden averaged 21.6 points per game, including a 27-point performance against Georgia Tech in the Sweet 16 and was named MVP of the Southeast regional in Atlanta. In his senior season in 1985-86, Redden started all 38 games for the Tigers, averaging 13.0 points per game and shooting .512 from the floor.

Redden currently sits third all-time at LSU for career free throw percentage with 84.0 percent. He is also sixth all-time for free throw percentage in a season with 87.3 percent of his free throws made in 1985. With 1,119 points in 103 games, Redden is 28th on the all-time LSU scoring list.

Died Mar. 8, 1988. Survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levy (Glenda) Redden, and brothers Bruce and Bart, and sister Roxanna, who was a member of the LSU women’s basketball team.

Excellent range and one of the team’s finest outside shooters … Rates as one of the premier free throw shooters in the SEC with an .873 mark last year … Set an LSU single-season record last season by making 29 straight from the line but missed tying the overall mark of 31 held by Eddie Palubinskas (set in 1972-73 & 1973-74) … Best game was his 21-point effort against Oral Roberts…Mild illness triggered a mid-January slump but he erupted for 17 in a key win at Auburn … Ranked third on the team in assists (83) and third in steals (27) … As a junior Redden proved to be one of the team’s top scorers and clutch performers … In the last 18 games he averaged 13.9 points and 5.2 rebounds … That included a 31-point outburst against Mississippi State which was the most points by a Tiger in 86 games … Won back-to-back games for the Tigers against Georgia and Tennessee with last-second heroics…Had 26 points and eight rebounds in the SEC Tournament game against Alabama … Scored at least 15 points in eight of his final 18 games that year … Played in only eight games as a freshman due to a dislocated left shoulder.

A two-time Class AAAA all-stater and a Converse All-American at Ouachita High where he averaged 27.3 points and 14.7 rebounds his senior year … Led Ouachita to a three-year mark of 61-25 … Played in Louisiana prep all-star game … Was a veer quarterback in junior high but quit football to concentrate on basketball … Had prep highs of 42 points and 22 rebounds … Had back-to-back nights of 40 points … Born Oct. 10, 1963, in Monroe.
