#31 Al Sanders Season 2024-25
ALL-CENTURY TEAM MEMBER
Known as one of the best rebounders of his era, Sanders finished his career as LSU’s leading rebounder and still holds three of the top four best rebounding performances in a single game for the Tigers.
As a senior, Sanders averaged 18.3 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, earning him first-team All-SEC honors. The 12.5-rebound average was the lowest of his career, however, and is tied for the 10th-highest average in school history.
As a junior, Sanders led the Tigers in scoring and rebounding, putting up 20.9 points and pulling down 14.8 rebounds per game. His 369 rebounds that season are seventh all-time at LSU and his 14.8 average is tied for third. His stellar performance made him a consensus pick for first-team All-SEC.
In his first season on the varsity squad, Sanders averaged 12.0 points and 14.8 rebounds, helping to lead the Tigers to the NIT Final Four and an overall record of 22-10. His 474 rebounds still stand as an all-time record at LSU.
In his career, Sanders posted two games with 26 rebounds and one game of 25 rebounds, second and fourth all-time at LSU. His 1,168 career rebounds are third at LSU and his 1,383 points are 18th.
After his LSU career ended, Sanders played one year for the Virginia Squires of the American Basketball association.
