Ronnie Hamilton Season 2024-25
Veteran Southeastern Conference coach Ronnie Hamilton joined the staff of LSU Coach Matt McMahon prior to the 2022-23 basketball season as an assistant coach.
Hamilton came to LSU after four years with the Ole Miss Rebels, having joined the Ole Miss staff in March 2018. He had served four seasons prior to that as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee.
Hamilton was involved in both on-court coaching, scouting and off-court recruiting efforts for Coach McMahon’s Tigers.
Hamilton worked primarily with the guards at Ole Miss, with Rebels earning All-SEC honors four times. Devontae Shuler in 2021 led the Rebels in scoring as a senior while Breein Tyree earned first team honors in 2019 and 2020, while Sacramento Kings guard Terence Davis earned honors in 2019.
Hamilton also helped recruit a top 20 class for Ole Miss in 2019, one of the highest rated classes in school history. The 2020 and 2021 classes also featured the highest rated recruits the program had signed.
Hamilton has participated in the prestigious TopConnect Basketball Symposium which annually identifies the top assistant basketball coaches in the country and connects them with mid-major athletic directors, providing tremendous networking and leadership development opportunities.
Hamilton helped the Rebels return to the NCAA Tournament in 2019 for the first time in four seasons.
In his first season at Ole Miss, Hamilton helped mentor the highest scoring duo in the SEC in all-conference guards Tyree (first team) and Terence Davis (second team). Devontae Shuler (56) and Terence Davis (54) became the first pair of Rebels to tally at least 54 steals in the same season
At Middle Tennessee, Hamilton was part of one of the best runs in school history. Hamilton helped produce a stretch in which the Blue Raiders earned three straight Conference USA championships, recorded two NCAA Tournament upsets over No. 2 seed Michigan State (2016) and No. 5 seed Minnesota (2017) and won a school-record 31 games (2016).
The Oxford, North Carolina spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Houston during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons in the Cougars last two seasons in Conference USA. During his time there he worked closely with guard Joseph Young, who was named all-league and also Daniel House who was C-USA Freshman of the Year honors in 2013
He also spent two years on the Tulane staff (2010-12), helping to recruit first team league honoree and C-USA Freshman of the Year Ricky Tarrant.
Hamilton also served two years as an assistant at The Citadel (2008-10) where he helped the team to 36 wins, including a school-record tying 20 wins during the 2008-09 campaign.
Hamilton also served three years at Division II Tarleton State from 2005-08. The Texans posted a 70-23 record, picking up wins against Baylor and TCU during his tenure in Stephenville, Texas. In 2005-06, Tarleton State advanced to the Division II NCAA Elite Eight.
Hamilton graduated with his master’s in physical education with a concentration in sports administration from UNC Pembroke, where he was graduate assistant coach for the basketball team from 2003-05.
He received his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Duke in 2002. Hamilton was a four-year letterman for the Blue Devil football team as a defensive back. He signed a free-agent contract with the New York Giants.
