SENIOR SEASON (2009)
Named the LSU most valuable player in 2009 … Hard-hitting defender who made the move from safety to linebacker late in the spring … Started all 13 games at linebacker in 2009, running his streak to 26 consecutive starts … Ranked third on the team in tackles with 82 and was second in both tackles for losses (9.0) and sacks (4.0) … Tallied three forced fumbles on the season, which ranked tied for second in single-season school history … Recorded five tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and credited with one QB hurry at Ole Miss … Finished with eight tackles and one sack versus Louisiana Tech … Had five tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss against Tulane … Earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his phenomenal performance against Auburn when he tallied nine tackles, the first two sacks of his career, 2.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup … Recorded five tackles, including four solo, at Georgia … Tied for the team lead with eight tackles against UL-Lafayette and also forced a fumble, broke up a pass and recorded one tackle for a loss … Led the team with a career-high 10 tackles against Vanderbilt and was credited with a quarterback hurry … Finished second on the team with seven total tackles against Washington, including five solo stops and one tackle for a four-yard loss.
JUNIOR SEASON (2008)
Played and started all 13 games at strong safety for the Tigers … Led the team in tackles with 71 … Had 42 solo tackles to go with 29 assists … Added one tackle for a loss, seven pass breakups and three quarterback hurries … Also forced one fumble and returned a fumble 15-yards … Ranked second on team in PBUs … Tallied a career-high nine tackles against Arkansas … Had a big game in win over South Carolina with four tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, which he returned 15 yards … Had seven tackles against both Auburn and Florida and registered five stops and one PBU vs. Ole Miss … Also had a pair of PBUs against North Texas and Florida … Closed season with a pair of tackles in win over Georgia Tech in Chick-fil-A Bowl.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2007)
Played in 13 games with no starts … Finished with 18 tackles, one QB hurry and a fumble recovery … Most extensive action of season came against Ohio State in BCS National Championship Game … Was pressed into duty in the first half against Ohio State when starter Craig Steltz went down with a stinger … Coleman responded by recording two tackles, recovering a fumble and having a QB hurry in the LSU victory … Big play against Ohio State came when he picked up a fumble and returned it 14 yards early in the fourth quarter … Named to ESPN’s All-Bowl Team for his effort in the win over the Buckeyes … Credited with a career-best four tackles, three of which were solo, against Mississippi State … Had three tackles each against Tulane and Ole Miss … Was also in on his first tackle for loss against the Green Wave … A key contributor on special teams, he played on the Tigers’ kickoff, kickoff return and punt return units.
REDSHIRT FRESHMAN SEASON (2006)
Played in all 13 games, contributing primarily on special teams … A standout in that capacity as he ranked among team leaders with 12 special teams tackles in 2006 … Named LSU’s Special Teams Player of the Week in wins over Louisiana-Lafayette and Mississippi State … Had two special teams tackles vs. Louisiana-Lafayette and added five special teams tackles against Mississippi State.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2005)
Did not see any action in 2005 … After originally signing with the school in 2004, joined the Tigers for the spring semester in 2005 … Sat out the fall of 2004 … Enrolled in school in January of 2005 and went through spring drills with the Tigers.
HIGH SCHOOL
One of the top linebackers in the state as a senior at West St. Mary High School in 2003 … Also a standout on offense, catching 14 TD passes as a senior … Added 170 tackles on defense in 2003 … Recorded more than 100 tackles and seven sacks as a junior … Grabbed nine touchdown passes in 2002 … First-team 3A all-state in 2003 … Helped the Wolfpack to consecutive 3A state playoff appearances, including a 10-0 regular season mark in 2003 … A four-year lettermen in football, track, baseball and basketball … Ran relays in track … Coached by Andre Lockley.
