SOPHOMORE SEASON (1991)
Played in nine games and started six at quarterback … Completed 102 of 174 passes for 58.6 passing percentage, 1,181 yards and nine TDs … Ranked No. 4 in the SEC in passing efficiency (123.51) and tied for No. 41 in the nation in that category … Surpassed 100-yard mark five times and 200-yard mark twice … Key to Tigers’ midseason surge, leading team to three wins in four weeks and near upset of No. 1 Florida State … Passed for 257 yards (20 of 34) in win at Kentucky, hitting Marcus Carter with late TD pass for Tiger road victory … Passed for 233 yards (17 of 33) the following week vs. No. 1 Florida State, including 63-yard scoring strike to Todd Kinchen on the second play of the game to put LSU ahead 7-0 and eventual 13-0 lead … Also threw for 182 yards at Ole Miss., 143 yards vs. Arkansas State and 134 yards at Tulane… Hit 72.2 percent of his passes (13 of 18) in rout of Arkansas State … Hit 70.8 percent of his passes (17 of 24) in win at Ole Miss … Threw two TDs each vs. Arkansas State, at Kentucky, at Tulane … Missed starts at A&M, vs. Vanderbilt, vs. Florida, vs. Miss. Played in 10 games and started six … Drew first start in fourth game of season vs. Texas A&M: 10 of 13 for 152 yards and one TD … LSU’s leader in pass efficiency, completing 75 of 141 passes for 975 yards, four interceptions, three TDs … Had three 100-yard games: 230 at Florida, 152 vs. Texas A&M, 119 vs. Kentucky … Threw for two TDs in win over Kentucky … Long pass of 79 yards to Todd Kinchen vs. Texas A&M, the second longest scoring pass in the SEC in 1990 … Did not play vs. Tulane in season finale … Led team in total offense, averaging 105.5 yards per game … Rushed for 80 yards on the season, including 27 at Florida and 27 vs. Kentucky … Had negative yards rushing in only one game (at Florida State, -9 yards) … In first college game, vs. Georgia, he was four and six for 58 yards … Had career highs for attempts, completions and yards at Florida: 43-22-230 … Three-yard TD run vs. Miami (Ohio) … Threw “Hail Mary” pass for apparent winning TD to Kinchen in Vandy game, but play was nullified by penalty … Ranked No. 11 in SEC in total offense.

One of the most highly-recruited players to come from the Louisiana prep ranks in 1988 … Member of the National Honor Society … Parade All-American and All-State Class A Offensive Player of the Year after leading LSU’s lab school through 13 straight victories and the 1988 state championship … Voted Louisiana Back of the Year by the Atlanta Touchdown Club … All-District and All-Parish Offensive MVP in 1987 and 1988… All-Parish punter with a career average of 43.8 yards per kick … As a prep, completed 437 of 803 passes for 7,271 yards and 75 touchdowns … Also carried the ball for 924 yards and another 33 touchdowns on 327 keeps. Named among the Dallas Morning News’ Top 70, the Morning Advocate’s Super Dozen and the Times-Picayune’s Top 10 … Earned four letters in basketball as a guard and forward and lettered two years in track as a sprinter.
