FRESHMAN SEASON (2003)
Joined the Tigers in fall camp after spending the last four years as a pitcher in the Chicago White Sox organization … Added depth to the Tiger defensive line in 2003 … Played in nine games with no starts … Had 11 tackles, including 4.5 for losses and two sacks … Sacks came against Louisiana Tech … Had best game of short career against Tech as he also registered four tackles with 2.5 of those going for losses.

Football and baseball standout at West Monroe High School … Team won four state titles in football and another in baseball … Tremendous baseball pitcher at the prep level … Originally signed a football scholarship with Texas A&M, but opted for professional baseball … Coached in football by Don Shows.

Full name is Brian Daniel West … Born on August 4, 1980 in West Monroe, La. … Got married over the summer … One of two first round baseball picks (the other is Joe Lawrence) on the LSU football team … Selected with the 35th pick overall by the Chicago White Sox in the 1999 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft … Clocked with a 96-mile per hour fastball in high school … Made the 40-man roster for the White Sox in the spring of 2003 and played briefly in Triple-A before developing an elbow problem that ended his pro baseball career … Majoring in business administration.
