2021 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll
Played the 2021 and 2022 seasons at LSU before transferring to Louisiana Tech … appeared in 32 games over two seasons with eight starts on the infield … a blue-collar, hard-nosed and gritty player that provided great toughness to the LSU program … began starting at free safety for University High as a freshman and won back-to-back football state championships in his sophomore and junior years … on the baseball field, he has a tremendous “Baseball IQ” … a winning player who does all the small things – great base runner, base stealer, defender and bunter.

Played in 26 games (seven starts), recording one RBI and eight runs scored … started five games in center field and two games at second base.
Prior to LSU
A two-time All-State and All-District selection in baseball at University High … established the school single-season stolen bases record with 38 steals.

Full name is Will Thomas Safford … parents are Jason and Heidi Safford … Dad is a real estate developer, Mom is a school teacher … has an older brother, Austin, and an older sister, Caroline … mother, father, brother and sister are all LSU graduates … Will’s uncle, Brandon Landry, is a former LSU basketball player and the owner of the Walk-On’s restaurant franchise … cousin Jacob Landry is the owner of the Smalls Sliders restaurant franchise … on attending LSU: “Growing up in Baton Rouge was filled with weekends at ‘The Box.’ Baseball has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My Dad and brother were always helping me to become better, and we would watch as many LSU games as we could growing up. When I was offered the chance to compete in the greatest atmosphere I’ve ever experienced, I couldn’t resist. Weekends at ‘The Box’ as a youngster were the most influential reasons for my decision to come to LSU” … born June 2, 2001, in Baton Rouge, La.
