Talented lefty reliever who made 62 career appearances (three starts) for the Tigers in 2014 and 2015 … posted a 5-1 career mark with a 3.36 ERA in 59 innings; recorded 65 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .217 batting average … combined in 2013 with LSU teammate Brady Domangue at LSU-Eunice to form a 1-2 punch that led to a runners-up finish for the JUCO national championship … Person’s fastball sits in the upper 80s, and he uses his outstanding breaking ball as an out pitch to get a lot of strikeouts … has a fast arm and clean mechanics that allow him to create some deception and make hitters uncomfortable … selected in the ninth round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros and signed with Houston in the summer of ’15 … earned his LSU degree in kinesiology in May 2015 and was a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Led the pitching staff with 31 appearances (two starts), posting a 2-0 mark and a 4.06 ERA in 31 innings with 12 walks and 36 strikeouts … limited opponents to a .195 batting average … pitched in all three of LSU’s SEC Tournament games, allowing one run on two hits in 2.1 innings with one walk and four strikeouts … worked 2.2 shutout innings at Mississippi State (April 30), limiting the Bulldogs to one hit with two strikeouts … made second career start on April 12 versus Auburn and was credited with the win after pitching three shutout innings, allowing just one hit with no BB, two Ks … recorded career-best four strikeouts in 2.1 innings at Alabama (April 2) in LSU’s 16-inning win; fired 44 pitches and allowed just one hit … worked two scoreless innings in two appearances in Ole Miss series (March 13-14), allowing no hits with four strikeouts … fired 10 straight scoreless innings in the 11 appearances he made from February 15-March 14.
2014 Season
Made 31 appearances (one start), recording a 3-1 mark and a 2.57 ERA in 28 innings with 12 walks and 29 strikeouts … made five appearances in LSU’s eight postseason (SEC and NCAA tournament) games, allowing no runs on one hit in 3.1 innings with one walk and four strikeouts … pitched in three games in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, firing two shutout innings and allowing one hit with one walk and three strikeouts … pitched a scoreless seventh inning in SEC Tournament championship game win over Florida (May 25), allowing no hits with one strikeout … recorded two shutout innings versus Alabama on May 10 in Game 2 of doubleheader – allowed one hit with no walks and two strikeouts … made two relief appearances in the Georgia series (March 21 and 23), pitching 4.1 scoreless innings with one walk and seven strikeouts … made two appearances at Vanderbilt (March 14-15), allowing no runs and no hits in 1.1 innings with no walks and two strikeouts … worked two innings versus Sacred Heart (March 5), allowing no runs on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Prior to LSU
Registered a 17-0 record in two seasons at LSU-Eunice with 143 strikeouts and a 2.35 ERA in 118.1 innings … his 98 strikeouts in 2013 were the sixth-highest total in LSU-Eunice history … helped lead LSU-Eunice to the JUCO national title in 2012 and national runners-up finish in 2013 … set Eunice High School record for strikeouts in a season with 182 in 2011 … had a 14-4 career high school record with 246 strikeouts and a 1.24 ERA … voted All-Parish MVP, All-District MVP, All-Acadiana MVP and 1st Team All-State in his high school senior season … named 2011 1st Team Louisville Slugger All-American and the 2011 Louisiana High School Coaches Association Pitcher of the Year.

Full name is Zachary Quinn Person … parents are Brad and Tracey Person … father is a pipeline operator, mother is a mail carrier … has one older brother, Lance, who is an LSU graduate … chose to attend LSU because “playing baseball here has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember – when you combine the program’s tradition and success with the unbelievable prestige and support from the fans, I couldn’t imagine someone wanting to represent a school other than LSU” … majoring in kinesiology at LSU … born October 13, 1992.
