Former Tiger catcher Will Davis enters his ninth year on the LSU coaching staff, and he will continue to serve as the Tigers’ third-base coach while tutoring the catchers and outfielders defensively, and helping to oversee the development of the LSU position players.

Davis has been on the LSU staff for four trips to the College World Series (2008, 2009, 2013, 2015), three SEC Championships (2009, 2012, 2015) and five SEC tournament titles (2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014), and he was an assistant coach on the 2009 National Championship team.

While coaching the Tiger outfielders since 2009, Davis has consistently engineered one of the nation’s top defensive units. Davis’ outfielders were routinely featured on ESPN’s top plays, and the 2013 LSU outfield committed just one error in 68 games.

Outfielders drafted under Davis’ watch include Jared Mitchell (1st Round), Mikie Mahtook (1st Round), Andrew Stevenson (2nd Round), Leon Landry (3rd Round), Jared Foster (5th Round), Mark Laird (9th Round), Raph Rhymes (15th Round), Sean McMullen (30th Round) and Johnny Dishon (42nd Round).

The 2015 season was the first for the former LSU catcher to oversee his former position, and the results were unprecedented. Davis helped Kade Scivicque, a part-time starter as a junior in 2014, become a first-team all-American catcher. Scivicque, a fourth-round selection by the Detroit Tigers, was recognized as the SEC’s best defensive catcher, and he was one of three finalists for the Johnny Bench Award, presented annually to the nation’s top catcher. Davis also coached LSU reserve catcher Chris Chinea, a 17th-Round draft selection by the St. Louis Cardinals.

An experienced recruiter, Davis has been a designated recruiter since the summer of 2011, helping to bring in the nation’s seventh-ranked class in 2011, fourth-ranked class in 2012, 10th-ranked class in 2013, and PerfectGame.org’s top-ranked class for 2014. Davis served as the head of Louisiana recruiting from 2011-2014 and helped to initially identify future draft picks Andrew Stevenson, Kade Scivicque, Mark Laird, and Zac Person. In addition, Davis’ high school showcase camp program has helped bring in 37 future Tigers since 2011.

Along with his on-field duties, Davis is also in charge of the prestigious LSU Baseball camps, is the head of the Coaches Committee (booster club), is the direct liaison to the LSU Baseball alumni, and he oversees all summer baseball placement for the LSU players.

The Baton Rouge native played at LSU from 2004-2007 and was a letterman on the 2004 College World Series team. He is married to the former Danielle Hall of Bogalusa, who was a member of the LSU Golden Girl squad.
