Played two seasons at the College of San Mateo (Calif.), where he batted .320 in 2002 with one homer, 12 doubles, one triple and 28 RBI . . . earned all-conference honors and participated in the California All-Star Sunbelt Classic . . . helped lead his team to the 2002 Coast Conference championship.

Product of Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, where he earned three letters in baseball (catcher) and two letters in football (quarterback) . . . received all-county and all-league recognition.
