Powerful hitter who made significant contributions for the Tigers, starting 129 games during his career … enjoyed a magnificent senior season, finishing No. 2 in the nation in homers (23), trailing only James Madison’s Kellen Kulbacki, who had 24 dingers … as fifth-year senior, was eligible to sign with an MLB club before the 2006 draft, and he came to terms with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
SENIOR SEASON (2006)
Completed the year tied for the SEC lead in home runs (23) with Josh Morris of Georgia … finished No. 3 in the league in slugging percentage (.664) and No. 5 in total bases (148) … tied LSU single-game record with three homers vs. Stetson (March 11) … homered in five straight games – vs. Alabama (April 15 and 16), at Tulane (April 18) and in both games of a doubleheader at Ole Miss (April 22) … 6-for-7 with one double, one homer and six RBI in final two games of Houston series (March 4-5) … two-out, two-run HR in ninth inning at Kentucky (3/19/06) erased a 2-1 deficit and lifted LSU to a 5-2 win … 2-for-3 with two homers, four RBI and three runs in win at Tennessee (April 7) … recorded a 10-game hitting streak from March 11-28, collecting eight homers, five doubles and 16 RBI during the streak.
JUNIOR SEASON (2005)
Played in 44 games with 33 starts (24 in LF, seven at DH, two in RF) … batted .250 (29-for-116) with seven doubles, two triples, three homers, 13 RBI and 19 runs … 3-for-7 in NCAA Baton Rouge Regional with one double, one homer, two RBI and one run … 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, two RBI and one run in regional win over Marist (June 3) … lined a double in SEC Tournament game vs. Tennessee (May 26) … a total of four hits in his nine postseason at-bats with two doubles, one homer, two RBI and one run … solo homer at Arkansas (April 22) in the sixth inning tied game at 7-7, capping an LSU comeback from a 6-0 deficit as the Tigers posted a 10-7 win … 3-for-5 vs. Northwestern State (April 12) with one double, one triple and three runs scored … productive three-game weekend vs. Arizona State and Western Illinois (March 11-13), batting .333 (4-for-12) with three runs, five RBI and one homer.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2003)
Played in 44 games (36 starts), batting .297 (43-for-145) with nine doubles, one triple, seven homers, 30 RBI and 26 runs … hit .333 (18-for-54) in SEC regular-season games with one double, one triple, two homers, 13 RBI and nine runs … unloaded a homer and drove in four runs in the Tigers’ College World Series game versus South Carolina (June 15) … 1-for-1 in the NCAA Super Regional final game versus Baylor with one double, one RBI and one run scored … did not play in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional due to a sprained left ankle … doubled and drove in two runs in the SEC Tournament … launched LSU’s first pinch-hit homer of the season, a three-run blast versus Auburn (May 10) … first career LSU homer versus Kansas (Feb. 14) to go along with two doubles in that contest … collected three hits and scored a run versus Florida (March 16).
FRESHMAN SEASON (2002 at Junior College)
Batted .420 in 2002 for Odessa (Texas) JC with 21 doubles, two triples, 18 homers, 74 RBI and a .903 slugging percentage … earned third-team all-American and first-team all-region recognition.
HIGH SCHOOL
Product of Dallas Christian High School in Mesquite, Texas … recipient of the NAACP Academic Excellence Award … also played wide receiver for the football team.
