Worked primarily as LSU’s closer, making 29 appearances and recording a 4-1 mark and a 1.85 ERA in 39 innings with 15 walks, 52 strikeouts and six saves … finished No. 7 in the SEC in appearances (29) and No. 8 in the league in saves (6) … earned a save and a win in the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional, posting a 0.00 ERA in 5.0 innings with three hits, three walks and three strikeouts … picked up the save in first-round regional win over Kennesaw State (June 3), firing a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout … secured the win in second-round regional game vs. Southern Miss (June 4), working a scoreless top of the 10th inning with one strikeout before LSU claimed victory in the bottom of the frame … credited with relief win on May 17 vs. Northwestern State, working 1.1 scoreless innings with one hit and three Ks … picked up fifth save of the season on May 6 at Alabama, working a scoreless ninth inning with no hits and one walk … earned save in Game 1 vs. Georgia (April 29), working a perfect 1.1 innings with two strikeouts; also pitched a perfect ninth inning in Game 3 vs. Georgia (May 1), setting the stage for LSU’s game-winning comeback … earned save in Game 1 vs. Missouri (April 21), working 1.1 scoreless innings with no hits, no walks and two Ks … posted a save in each of the first two games of LSU’s sweep at Mississippi State (April 8-9) – Gervase worked a perfect 2.2 innings in two appearances over the weekend with two saves and six strikeouts; he worked the final inning of LSU’s 5-2 win in Game 1 and retired the side in order while recording two strikeouts; he then pitched the final 1.2 innings of Game 2, preserving a 4-3 LSU victory – he fired four strikeouts, including striking out the side in the ninth inning … Excellent relief outing in LSU win at Florida (March 26) – 2.1 shutout innings with no hits, one walk and two Ks.
Prior to LSU
The Fuquay-Varina, N.C., native started his collegiate career in 2020 at Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh, N.C., where he worked 10.1 innings in eight appearances, recording 14 strikeouts … pitched the 2021 season at Pitt Community College in Winterville, N.C., where he had 14 appearances, 21.2 innings pitched and 35 strikeouts; he allowed just 11 hits and recorded a 1.66 ERA … received honorable mention JUCO All-America recognition … prepped at Harnett Central High School in Angier, N.C. … worked 29.1 innings in his senior year, posting 25 strikeouts and a 2.39 ERA … also batted .326 in his senior high school season.
