An excellent offensive player that put up tremendous numbers in junior college and recorded a .283 (66-for-233) career batting average at LSU in 2017 and 2018 … appeared in 89 games (59 starts) in his career, collecting 13 doubles, four homers, 40 RBI and 35 runs scored … provided veteran experience and right-handed power to the Tigers’ lineup … a member of the 2017 Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll as a general business major … helped lead LSU-Eunice during the 2015 and 2016 seasons to a 100-16 record, serving as the team captain in 2016 … received his LSU degree in general business on May 11, 2018.

Appeared in 43 games (22 starts), batting .257 (26-for-101) with six doubles, two homers, 16 RBI and 15 runs … started 16 games at catcher, five at first base and one at DH … 3-for-4 with two runs scored in LSU’s NCAA Regional win over San Diego State (June 1) … collected two hits and two RBI in NCAA Regional win over Northwestern State (June 3) … collected a career-best four hits at Tulane (April 18), going 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, one RBI and one run … 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored vs. Tennessee on April 14 … doubled and scored a run vs. UL-Lafayette (March 27); 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored vs. Notre Dame on Feb. 17.
2017 Season
Played in 46 games (37 starts), batting .303 (40-for-132) with seven doubles, two homers, 24 RBI, 20 runs and a .401 on-base percentage … started 30 games at first base and seven games at catcher … batted .284 (23-for-81) in SEC games with seven doubles, one homer, 11 RBI and 12 runs … started in three games at first base during the College World Series, delivering three singles in six at-bats with one walk … provided five RBI in LSU’s four games at the SEC Tournament (May 24-28) … collected a team-high four RBI in a three-game sweep of Mississippi State, including a two-run double in the first inning of Game 2 … batted .333 (4-for-12) in Alabama series (April 27-29) with one double, two RBI and two runs … recorded an 11-game hit streak that ended on April 25 at Tulane – Coomes batted .375 (15-for-40) during the streak with four doubles, two homers, eight RBI and eight runs … produced four hits and four RBI in series at Kentucky (April 21-23), collecting one double, one homer and three runs scored … belted first career LSU home run on April 18 versus Lamar, a two-run blast … 3-for-6 at the plate in the final two games of the Arkansas series (April 8-9) with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored; delivered RBI double in second inning at Arkansas (April 9) to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead and LSU went on to a 2-0 victory.

Batted .359 in 2016 at LSU-Eunice with 13 homers, 25 doubles, 81 RBI, 76 runs and 15 stolen bases … named 2016 JUCO All-American and All-Region and was ranked No. 18 among Top 100 JUCO prospects … helped lead LSU-Eunice to the 2015 JUCO national championship, batting .299 with five homers and 18 doubles … earned All-State, All-Metro and All-District honors at Catholic High School; helped lead the Bears to the 2013 state championship … received high school Gold Glove recognition at catcher in 2014 … also played quarterback for the Catholic High football team.
