Regarded as one of the best defensive catchers in the nation during his four seasons at LSU … selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 30th round of the 2005 Major League Baseball draft, but elected to return to LSU for his senior season … chosen in the 19th round of the ’06 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays … started 212 games during his LSU career, the most by a catcher in school history.
SENIOR SEASON (2006)
Finished as the Tigers’ third-leading hitter in ’06, batting .317 (58-for-183) with 13 doubles, three homers, 21 RBI and 28 runs … 11-game hitting streak from April 4-23 — batted .415 (17-for-41) during the streak with four doubles, one homer, seven runs and five RBI … solo homer at Auburn (5/6/06) broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning and proved to be the game-winning hit in LSU’s 5-3 victory … LSU’s second-leading hitter in SEC games, batting .311 (33-for-106) with seven doubles, two homers, 12 RBI and 14 runs.
JUNIOR SEASON (2005)
Started 45 games at catcher, batting .251 (43-for-171) with 10 doubles, three homers, 24 RBI and 30 runs … batted .298 (14-for-47) with runners in scoring position … hit .364 (4-for-11) in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional with one homer, two RBI and two runs … 2-for-3 in NCAA Regional win over Marist (June 3) with one homer, two RBI and one run … 1-for-4 in the SEC Tournament with one run scored … .333 (5-for-15) in all postseason games combined with one homer, two RBI and three runs … collected two doubles and two RBI in win over Tennessee (May 15) … 3-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI at Alabama (April 3) … 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI versus Northwestern State (April 12); scored a career-best four runs in that contest.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2004)
Started 60 games behind the plate, batting .328 (75-for-229) with 14 doubles, nine homers, 45 RBI and 37 runs … was named to the “Watch List” for the 2004 Johnny Bench Award, given annually to the nation’s outstanding catcher … threw out 14 runners attempting to steal and picked off one base runner … hit .299 (35-for-117) in SEC regular-season games with six doubles, five homers, 22 RBI and 18 runs … LSU’s second-leading hitter in NCAA Tournament games, batting .417 (10-for-24) with one double, one RBI and six runs … 2-for-8 in the College World Series with one run scored … 3-for-6 in the NCAA Super Regional vs. Texas A&M with one run scored … named to the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional all-tournament team for the second straight year, batting .500 (5-for-10) with one double, one RBI and four runs … named SEC Player of the Week on March 22 after leading LSU to a series win at South Carolina; homered twice and drove in four runs in the Game 3 victory over the Gamecocks (March 21) … career-best 14-game hit streak from Feb. 14-March 9; batted .407 (22-for-54) during the streak with five doubles, two homers, 13 RBI and 10 runs … batted .500 (7-for-14) in Arkansas series (April 9-11) with one double, one homer, six RBI and two runs.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2003)
Appeared in 57 games (54 starts), batting .312 (60-for-192) with eight doubles, four homers, 26 RBI and 38 runs … LSU’s leading hitter in post-season games, batting .381 (16-for-42) with one double, three RBI and eight runs … also the Tigers’ top hitter in the NCAA Tournament, batting .467 (14-for-30) with one double, one RBI and seven runs in eight games … 2-for-6 in the College World Series with one double and one run scored … batted .615 (8-for-13) in the NCAA Super Regional versus Baylor with two runs scored … 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the Super Regional finale, his second three-hit game of the series … 4-for-11 in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional with four runs and one RBI, earning all-tournament honors … 2-for-12 in the SEC Tournament with two RBI …posted a 12-game hitting streak from March 15-April 6, batting .327 (16-for-49) during the streak … launched first career homer in Game 1 of Georgia series (March 21); also hit the game-winning homer in the ninth inning of Game 3 of the UGA series (March 23).
HIGH SCHOOL
Product of Rummel High School in Metairie, La., a suburb of New Orleans … earned four letters in baseball (catcher) and two letters in football (quarterback) … helped lead Rummel to district baseball titles in 1999, 2000 and 2001 … earned Class 5A all-state recognition and was voted district MVP … named the Nokia Sugar Bowl Amateur Athlete of the Month in June, 2000 … as a junior, batted .419 with 12 homers and 52 RBI … member of the Beta Honor Roll.
