Skilled infielder who played as LSU’s starting shortstop for the first eight games of the 2003 season before suffering a right shoulder injury that required surgery . . . received a medical redshirt for the ’03 season . . . should contend for playing time at shortstop and second base in 2004 . . . played extremely well during 2003 fall intrasquad games, batting .367 (18-for-49) with seven doubles, one triple and one homer.
2003 Season
Started the first eight games of the year at shortstop before suffering the season-ending shoulder injury . . . batted .231 (6-for-26) with two doubles, one homer, six RBI and seven runs . . . his first career LSU homer – a solo shot – came in Game 1 of series versus Kansas (Feb. 14) . . . doubled and collected two RBI versus Northwestern State (Feb. 8) . . . doubled and scored a run in Game 2 of series against Kansas (Feb. 16).

Product of Lake Mary (Fla.) High School, where he earned all-state, all-conference and all-district recognition and helped lead his team to conference and regional titles . . . did not play his senior season after undergoing “Tommy John” arm surgery . . . entering his senior season, he had a .411 (113-for-275) career batting average with 32 doubles, four triples, six homers, 82 runs and 61 RBI . . . struck out only 19 times in 275 at-bats . . . member of the National Honor Society and the Latin Honor Society . . . recipient of the Citizenship Award.
