Nik McClaughry joined the LSU Baseball staff in September 2025 as the Assistant Director of Player Development/Position Players.

McClaughry, who competed for three collegiate seasons (2021-23) at Arizona, was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 10th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He also played in the Seattle Mariners’ organization, reaching the Triple-A level.

He played the 2021 season at Arizona under current LSU head coach Jay Johnson, and he enjoyed a spectacular career as the Wildcats’ starting shortstop, batting .299 over three seasons with 34 doubles, 10 triples, eight homers, 95 RBI and 165 runs in 177 games (165 starts).

He was a three-time Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll selection, and he was named Pac-12 All-Conference and the league’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.

McClaughry earned 2021 NCAA Tucson Regional All-Tournament Team recognition, as he helped lead Arizona to a College World Series berth.

A product of Rocklin, Calif., he began his collegiate career at Sacramento City College before transferring to Arizona.
