Aaron Hyder Season 2020-21
Aaron Hyder is in his fifth year with the LSU Athletics Department. He works directly with soccer, track & field, cross country, and men’s golf.
Hyder arrived in Baton Rouge in April of 2018 after spending a year and a half in Columbus, Ohio as an athletics communications intern at Ohio State University. He did a bit of everything while at Ohio State working directly with field hockey, swimming & diving, rowing, track & field, cross country, and men’s gymnastics. He also served as a statistician for the following sports: women’s/men’s basketball, women’s/men’s ice hockey, and women’s/men’s lacrosse. His biggest task during his time in Columbus was hosting the 2018 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships that included the likes of Olympic gold medalists Katie Ledecky, Lilly King and Simone Manuel. Hyder was in charge of working with local and national media, setting media guidelines, identifying locations for photographers to access during competition, and arranging post-race interviews with student-athletes. He also assisted at other NCAA Championship events such as the 2016 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships and the 2018 NCAA Women’s Final Four, both of which were hosted in Columbus.
Hyder started at Ohio State in August of 2016 and in addition to his sports responsibilities, he was in charge of scheduling student workers for all of Ohio State’s home events. He landed at Ohio State after serving as a graduate assistant at UTEP from 2014-16. While in El Paso, Hyder worked with cross country, men’s golf and track and field. He helped out statting football and women’s/men’s basketball contests during his time in El Paso as well.
Hyder earned his undergrad degree in May of 2014 from Middle Tennessee State University in electronic media journalism. He earned two letters on the baseball team in 2012 and 2013 at MTSU and served as a student assistant coach during his final year on campus (2013-14). Not the greatest athlete, Hyder resurrected his baseball career in his senior season of eligibility at MTSU in 2013 as he dropped down and became a sidearm sidewinder. The numbers weren’t the greatest (32 IP/4.50 ERA), but he ended up logging the sixth most innings on the squad under the tutelage of first-year pitching coach Skylar Meade. Hyder played his first two years of collegiate baseball (2010 & 2011) at Columbia State Community College (Columbia, Tenn.) under head skipper Mike Corn and played a small part in the team winning the 2011 TCCAA conference tournament.
A native of Smyrna, Tenn., Hyder went to Ezell Harding Christian School from kindergarten until the time he graduated in 2009. His mother (Emily), father (Jim), and brother (Cody) all live in Smyrna. Hyder is an avid gamer specializing in the likes of FIFA, Madden, Fortnite and Call of Duty.
