Scott Kuehn joined the LSU football staff in 2022 and serves as the manager of applied science for the program. In his role, Kuehn oversees the collection, analysis, visualization, and interpretation of training load, biometric, and key performance data from the various sports science technologies utilized within the football program.

Kuehn’s work has vaulted the LSU football program to the top of its class in sports science and has helped contribute to back-to-back 10-win seasons for the Tigers.

Prior to arriving in Baton Rouge, Kuehn worked at the University of Arizona with both the football and Olympic sports programs from August 2020 until December 2021. He had a pivotal role in designing and informing the preseason preparatory approach for the football team during the COVID pandemic season, which yielded substantial improvements in speed and explosiveness seen during practice and competition. He also worked in a dual capacity with the Olympic sports, serving as assistant performance enhancement coach and coordinator of performance sciences.

Before his time in Tucson, he served at the College of William & Mary, where he worked in a similar dual role as an Assistant Athletics Performance Coach – Coordinator of Data Science from August 2018 until August 2020. While there, he worked with football, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s Tennis, women’s gymnastics, and cross country.

His work with the women’s lacrosse team also led to the successful publication of a research paper entitled “LAX-Score: Quantifying Team Performance in Lacrosse and Exploring IMU Features towards Performance Enhancement” for which he was a co-author in research which identified contributive practice features towards competitive success in women’s lacrosse to better inform practice design.

Kuehn spent time at the University of Tulsa as a graduate assistant from 2016 to 2018, working with football, women’s tennis, softball, and the 2018 Pro Day class.

He got his start in the profession at the University of Kentucky working with its football program in 2015, after spending extensive time in the private sector at Acceleration Sports Performance Naperville.

He spent a brief time as the head strength and conditioning coach at Metea Valley High School in Aurora, Illinois.

Kuehn completed his master of science in math and science education at the University of Tulsa in May 2018 and his bachelor of science in exercise science at Illinois State University in December 2014.

He was a three-time letterman on the Redbird football team, where he went from being a walk-on to a scholarship athlete who played his final game in the 2015 FCS National Championship.

Kuehn is certified through the National Strength & Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and is Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association.
