As the LSU Spirit Squads’ Director of Operations, Mattie Mattie Winfield is eager to contribute to helping both the Tiger Girls and the Cheerleading team grow and excel as Division I athletics programs at LSU.

Winfield grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and attending college at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. During her year at UAFS, she won a gold medal at the NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Following 2017-18, Winfield transferred to Southern Arkansas University and completed a degree in exercise science while cheering for the Southern Arkansas University cheerleading team. During her time cheering for the Muleriders, Mattie was captain for the cheer team for three years, leading her team to placing top 5 at the NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida, in both the 2019 and 2021 seasons.

Following graduation, Mattie followed her husband to Baton Rouge where she started her master’s degree in kinesiology at LSU and began working with the LSU Spirit Squads. During her first year working with the spirit squads, she had the privilege of contributing her assistance to the Tiger Girls as they won a UDA National Championship in the hip-hop category and assisting with the Cheerleading team as they placed top 5 at the UCA College Nationals in Orlando, Florida.

In August of 2022, Mattie earned her master’s degree and started working with the LSU Spirit Squads as the Tiger Girls Recruitment Coordinator. During this time, her favorite part was making high school athletes dreams come to a reality getting to dance at the next level, especially at LSU.
