Jim Hofher, a former head coach at Cornell University and the University of Buffalo, joined the LSU football staff in January of 2022 and serves as the director of advance scouting for the Tigers.

Hofher is responsible for scouting and breakdowns of LSU’s upcoming opponents during the season. He also oversees LSU’s Pro Day as well as serving as a liaison with pro scouts.

Hofher spent 13 years as a head coach at the collegiate level, eight at Cornell University followed by five at Buffalo. He led Cornell to the 7-3 overall mark and the Ivy League title in his first year in 1990. He capped his career at Cornell with a 45-35 mark.

He served as head coach at Buffalo for five years from 2001-05.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Wake Forest in 1979, followed by two years (1981-82) as the quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at Miami (Ohio).

His assistant coach resume includes four years as running backs coach at Wake Forest (1983-86), two years as running backs coach at Syracuse (1987-89), and quarterbacks coach at Tennessee in 1989 before being named head coach at Cornell.

In between head coaching duties at Cornell and Buffalo, he was the quarterbacks coach at North Carolina in 1998-99 and Syracuse in 2000. Other coaching stops for Hofher include Bowling Green, (2008), Delaware (2009-12), Nevada (2013-15), and Iowa State (2016-17).

Hofher was a three-year letterman at quarterback for Cornell from 1976-7, earning All-ECAC honors with the Big Red. He graduated from Cornell ins 1979 with a degree in consumer economics and public policy. The Xavier, Connecticut native has three daughters.
