Joe Schwartz is in his third year with the LSU Women’s Basketball and is entering his first as an assistant coach.

This is Schwartz’ first official on-court role of his young career. A former walk-on at Texas, Schwartz joined Coach Mulkey’s staff when she came to LSU and has worked seamlessly in video production and recruiting to allow the Tigers to excel. He has also had the opportunity to work on the court, per NCAA guidelines when assistant coaches have been on the recruiting trail.

Schwartz was a key component to the staff as the Tigers won their first national championship in 2023. His efforts in video coordination were critical in allowing the team to review scouts in order to prepare for upcoming opponents. He also engaged with student groups at LSU to allow the Tigers to have one of the toughest students sections for visiting teams to face on the road.

In his role with the Tigers, Schwartz also creates graphic design content related to recruiting efforts. In addition, he organizes the Dream Team, the practice squad that assists the LSU Women’s Basketball team in preparing for competition. He also plays a key role in all on-campus recruiting matters, video coordination, basketball camps and stats and analytics.

Before being hired as a member of the LSU Women’s Basketball staff, Schwartz coached at Vanguard College Preparatory School where he was the interim head coach and later assistant coach for the varsity squad. He also served as the head coach for the JV and Middle School teams at Vanguard.

Prior to his return to sports on a full-time basis, Schwartz secured his real estate license and was actively involved in sales, leasing and appraisal assistance at Harrell Realty in Waco.

In 2019, as a service associate with the New Orleans Pelicans and New Orleans Saints, Schwartz assisted with gameday promotions, daily internal operations and provided account management for season ticket holders.

Schwartz was a four-year letterman as a member of The University of Texas Men’s Basketball Team. He played under coaches Rick Barnes and Shaka Smart as a walk-on and earned a plethora of accolades including: The Big 12 Conference Community Champion Award, The University of Texas Provost Award, Texas Basketball Spirit Award, and was an eight-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Role selectee.

A native of Waco, Texas, Schwartz attended Vanguard College Preparatory School. While he was there, Schwartz excelled on and off the court, leading the Vikings to a pair of state runner-up finishes and three state semi-final appearances. He was named the TAPPS District 4 MVP and to both the First-team All-State and All-Tournament teams at the state final four as a junior and senior. Schwartz was also voted Waco Tribune Herald 2014 Super Cen-Tex Player of the Year.

With a passion for helping others. Schwartz created, managed and executed a phenomenally successful fundraiser called “Dollars for Dell” which provided toys for children confined to Dell Children’s Hospital over the holidays. With his assistance, this event was extended to providing meals for hospital nurses and staff working tirelessly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
