MLB Draft: 29th round in 2012 (Boston); 1st round in 2015 (Houston)

One of the most dynamic players in LSU history who played three seasons (2013, 2014, 2015) as the Tigers’ starting shortstop … selected in the first round (No. 2 overall pick) by the Houston Astros in the 2015 MLB Draft and signed with the Astros in the summer of ’15 … started all 196 games of his LSU career at shortstop, batting .337 (265-for-786) with 56 doubles, 10 triples, 21 homers, 148 RBI, 153 runs and 66 stolen bases … played magnificent defense, committing just nine errors in 359 chances … his 56 career doubles rank No. 8 in LSU all-time annals … Bregman’s 38 steals in 2015 rank as the second-highest single-season total in school history … finalist for the 2015 Golden Spikes Award and a first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC performer … 2013 National Freshman of the Year and winner of the 2013 Brooks Wallace Award as the nation’s best shortstop … also received 2013 first-team All-America recognition and was named the ’13 SEC Freshman of the Year … played for the U.S. Collegiate National Team in the summers of 2013 and 2014 – he collected five doubles, one homer, 17 RBI, 20 runs and 10 steals in 10 attempts for Team USA in 2014 with a schedule that included games against Cuba, Japan and Chinese Taipei; he batted .361 in 18 games for the United States in 2013, helping the squad post a 20-3 record … 29th round selection of the Boston Red Sox as a high school senior in the 2012 MLB Draft.

2015 Season
Started all 66 of LSU’s games at shortstop, batting .323 (84-for-260) with 22 doubles, three triples, nine homers, 49 RBI, 59 runs and 38 steals … Bregman led the SEC in stolen bases (38) and he was No. 2 in the league in doubles (22), No. 7 in total bases (139) and No. 8 in runs scored (59) … his 38 stolen bases represented the second-highest single-season total in LSU history, trailing only Rob Hartwig (42 steals in 1987) … LSU’s leading hitter in the 2015 College World Series, batting .538 (7-for-13) with three runs scored … provided a two-out, two-run single in top of eighth inning vs. UL-Lafayette in Game 2 of the NCAA Super Regional (June 7), extending a 1-0 lead to 3-0 in an eventual 6-3 win that clinched a CWS berth … posted a reached-base streak of 49 consecutive games that began on February 18 and ended on May 14 … batted .400 in the Miss. State series (April 30-May 2) with four doubles, three RBI and five runs … batted .417 in Texas A&M series (April 23-25) with 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run; two-run double in 7th inning of Game 2 versus the Aggies gave LSU a 6-5 lead en route to 9-6 victory … batted .429 (6-for-14) in LSU’s three-game SEC sweep at Alabama (April 2-4) with two doubles, one triple, two RBI, five runs and three stolen base … homered three times in a four-game stretch (March 11-15) and also collected one double, six runs and seven RBI in that four-game span … voted to the Houston College Classic All-Tournament team (March 6-8), as he hit .385 (5-for-13) in three games vs. Houston, Baylor and Nebraska with one double, three runs scored and three steals in three attempts; Bregman also played magnificent defense in the tournament, posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 20 chances.

2014 Season
Started all 63 of LSU’s games at shortstop, batting .316 (77-for-244) with 16 doubles, six homers, 35 runs and 12 stolen bases … earned second-team all-SEC recognition from the league’s coaches … batted .451 (23-for-51) in last 12 games of the 2014 season with six doubles, three homers, 16 RBI and 12 runs … named to the 2014 NCAA Regional All-Tournament team, hitting .533 (8-for-15) with two doubles, three RBI and two runs … named to 2014 SEC All-Tournament team after batting .412 (7-for-17) with two doubles, one homer, five RBI, three runs … career-high eight RBI vs. Northwestern State (May 13, 2014), including his first career grand slam … 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, two RBI and two runs in May 2 win over Texas A&M; it was his third three-hit game of the season … hit .444 (8-for-18) in LSU’s four games during the week of April 22-27 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs … Bregman was 6-for-15 (.400) in the Tennessee series (April 25-27) with two doubles, three RBI, two runs and one steal … launched three-run homer versus McNeese State (April 2) to erase 3-2 deficit and lift Tigers to 10-3 victory … reached base safely in the Tigers’ first 19 games of the season; streak was broken at Vanderbilt (March 15) … collected four RBI vs. Purdue (March 7) as he was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

2013 Season
Recipient of the 2013 Brooks Wallace Award as the nation’s best shortstop; also received first-team all-America recognition … named 2013 National Freshman Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, by Baseball America magazine and by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association; voted 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year and first-team all-SEC by the league coaches … batted .369 (104-for-282) with 18 doubles, seven triples, six homers, 52 RBI, 59 runs and 16 steals in 17 attempts … finished the 2013 season No. 2 in the nation in base hits with 104 … named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, batting .545 (6-for-11) with one double, one HR, three RBI and five runs … No. 2 in the SEC in base hits (104); No. 1 in triples (7); No. 3 in total bases (154); No. 5 in batting average (.369); No. 4 in runs scored (59); No. 3 in doubles (18); No. 4 in slugging percentage (.546) and No. 5 in RBI (52) … hit .373 (47-for-126) in SEC regular-season games with seven doubles, three triples, four homers and 26 RBI … batted .500 (6-for-12) in LSU’s three-game sweep of Florida (May 2-4) with two doubles, three RBI and four runs scored … 3-for-7 in April 20 win at Alabama with one homer, one triple, one double, three RBI and one run scored … posted 23-game hit streak from March 6-April 12, batting .495 (48-for-97) during the streak with eight doubles, five triples, two homers and 24 RBI; the streak was the fourth-longest in LSU history … named SEC Player of the Week (March 25) after hitting .692 (9-for-13) in the Auburn series with one double, two RBI, five runs … delivered game-winning walk-off single in bottom of 13th inning March 20 to lift LSU to 2-1 win over Northwestern State … launched three-run homer in ninth inning of Game 2 of Miss. State series (March 16), helping to clinch a 7-3 LSU victory … drove in four runs in LSU’s 11-2 win Feb. 26 at Louisiana-Lafayette, blasting his first career collegiate home run, a three-run dinger.

Prior to LSU
Battled an injury during his senior season, but hit .678 as a high school junior in 2011 and set a New Mexico season record with 19 HRs … coached by Jason Columbus, who played at LSU in 2002 as a reserve first baseman … received first team All-State recognition … led 18U U.S. National Team to a gold medal in the fall of 2011 at the International Baseball Federation World Championships … … received All-Metro honors and All-District honors … received 2010 Richard W. Case Award as the USA Baseball Player of the Year … helped lead team to high school state championship in 2009.
