BATON ROUGE – LSU freshman Jordan Fischer in her opening round of play for the Tigers fired a 1-under par 71 on Monday at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi in the first round of The Ally.
The Tigers stand in fifth overall at 4-over par 292 after the opening round of the event, finishing 7-under par in the final six holes by its four counting team scores.
Latanna Stone was 4-under on holes 13-18, Carla Tejedo was 2-under, Fischer was 1-under and Edit Hertzman even on the final six holes.
Indiana is the tournament leader after a 7-under round of 281, three shots clear of host Mississippi State at 284. Florida is third at 285 and James Madison just ahead of LSU at 3-over 291. ULM is sixth at 7-over 295.
Fischer had birdies on the par 4 fifth and par 5 ninth holes to turn at two over before bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes moved her back to even. But the native of Halle, Germany who now lives in Fort Myers, Florida, birdied the par 5 15th hole to get back to 1-under to post the 71.
She stands in a tie for eighth place in the individual competition, led by Caroline Craig of Indiana and Surapa Janthamunee of Mississippi State at 5-under 67.
The Tigers also counted a 1-over 71 from grad student Stone and 2-over 74s from senior Tejedo and sophomore Hertzman.
LSU led the full five-player team rankings with 18 birdies on the day.
The Tigers will be off the first tee against on Tuesday for the second round of the 54-hole event in the opening wave of the day at 9 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
