Ofili Wins World U20 Title in 4x400m Relay, Claims Three Total Medals at U20 World Meet

Nairobi, Kenya – Three medals on the world stage. That’s the haul that LSU sprinter Favour Ofili is bringing back to Baton Rouge with her after her performances at the U20 World Championships this past week in Kenya. Ofili, who competed for her home country of Nigeria, won gold in the 4×400 meter relay, and then captured bronze medals in the 200 meters and 4×100 meter relay.

She closed out competition at the U20 World Championships on Sunday with her final two medals. First, she ran the second leg of Nigeria’s 4×100 meter relay team that won bronze with a time of 43.90 seconds. She closed out the meet by anchoring Nigeria’s 4×400 meter relay to gold with a time of 3:31.46.

She clocked a personal best of 22.23 in the 200 meters on Saturday which earned her the bronze behind Olympic silver medalist Christine Mboma (21.84) and Beatrice Masilingi (22.18). The 22.23 by Ofili is a Nigerian U20 record, the third fastest every by an African U20 athlete, and it ranks No. 6 on the all-time U20 world list. It also moves her up to sole possession of the No. 4 slot on the LSU all-time list.
