Women’s T&F Finishes Sixth at NCAA Championships

Eugene, Oregon  –  The LSU women’s track and field team placed sixth at the 2021 NCAA Championships on Saturday with a final point total of 28.5. The Tigers scored 18.5 points on the final day of the NCAA outdoor meet at Hayward Stadium.

Eugene, Oregon  –  The LSU women’s track and field team placed sixth at the 2021 NCAA Championships on Saturday with a final point total of 28.5. The Tigers scored 18.5 points on the final day of the NCAA outdoor meet at Hayward Stadium.

Results

The women’s 4×100 meter relay scored eight points in the first event of the day on the track for the Tigers. Tonea Marshall, Favour Ofili, Symone Mason, and Thelma Davies moved the baton around the track in a time of 42.84 narrowly losing to USC (42.82).

Marshall, the second ranked 100 meter hurdler in the world, was set to compete for an NCAA title in the 100 meter hurdles 40 minutes later but did not make it to the starting line after slightly tweaking her hamstring in the 4×100 meter relay.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Milan Young clocked a personal best of 56.23 to take fifth place on her way to moving up to No. 9 on the LSU all-time list. Brittley Humphrey placed ninth in the same race with a time of 57.51.

Favour Ofili registered the best individual finish of the day for the Tigers by coming in fourth place in the 200 meter dash with a readout of 22.45.

In the high jump, Abigail O’Donoghue tied for seventh with a clearance of 5′ 11.25″ (1.81 meters) to earn 1.5 points for LSU. Nyagoa Bayak placed 14th with a clearance of 5′ 10″ (1.78 meters) in the high jump as well.
