Gutierrez Lavenant, Tuxen Achieve Olympic Quota Spot

TOKYO – LSU divers Montserrat Gutierrez Lavenant and Anne Tuxen finished off a huge day on the boards for their native countries on Women’s Platform as both women qualified for the Platform semi-final that will take place on Wednesday. Along with advancing to the semi-finals, both of their performances secured an Olympic quota spot for their countries.

Gutierrez Lavenant, diving for her native country Mexico, finished in seventh place in the prelim with a score of 298.10. Her performance secures a spot for Mexico at the 2021 Olympic Games. Anne Tuxen, diving for Norway, finished in 18th place in the prelim with a score of 257.75.

“This marks my proudest day as a coach ever,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “Today Montserrat and Anne secured 2021 Olympic Games quota spots for Mexico and Norway, respectively. These two, along with Juan Celaya-Hernandez (Three-Meter Synchro) and Lizzie Cui (Three-Meter Springboard) make four LSU divers who’ve achieved quota spots for their countries to the Tokyo Olympics. Attendance is not final but it appears there will likely be some purple and gold in Tokyo. I am very proud of this team!”

Also on the boards today was Helle Tuxen, who narrowly missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals as she finished in 30th place with a score of 222.80.

“Helle definitely fought hard today,” continued Coach Shaffer. “However at this level, there is no room for error.”
