Women's Tennis Moves to Program-High No. 9

Baton Rouge, La. – The LSU women’s tennis team moved up two spots to No. 9 in the latest computerized Oracle ITA Division I Women’s Tennis Team Rankings, announced on Wednesday.

The No. 9 ranking ties the highest ranking in program history and is the first time since the 2016 season the team has ranked as high. The Tigers finished the regular season with a 14-4 overall record and 9-4 record in SEC play, a new program-high for conference wins. In SEC play, LSU picked up Top 25 wins over then No. 9 Vanderbilt, No. 20 Auburn, and No. 23 Tennessee.

In the Oracle ITA coaches poll, LSU is ranked No. 12 alongside the Michigan Wolverines.

Individually, LSU continues to be represented in both the singles and doubles rankings. Senior Paris Corley leads the Tigers this week by checking in at No. 51. Corley heads into postseason with a 17-4 overall record in singles play, leading the team in wins.

Senior Taylor Bridges is not far behind her teammate, moving to No. 55 in this week’s rankings. The Mesa, Arizona native has been a rock for the Purple & Gold this season, picking up seven wins in dual play at the No. 1 spot for the Tigers. Overall, Bridges has grabbed 13 wins this season, with three of those coming against ranked opponents.

Rounding out the singles rankings for the Tigers is sophomore Safiya Carrington at No. 105. Carrington has notched six wins in dual play at the No. 2 spot, and ten overall in the 2020-21 season.

In doubles, Bridges and Corley represent the Tigers with a ranking of No. 84. The seniors currently sit at 15-3 in the overall season, with 12 of those wins coming in the dual season. The duo has played across all three doubles spots in dual play and has picked up two ranked wins.

No. 9 LSU will take part in the 2021 SEC Tournament that runs from April 19 to April 23 at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
