Barber Cards Even Par 71, Tigers in 11th Place at Country Club of Birmingham Invitational
Birmingham, Ala. – The No. 23 LSU men’s golf team shot a 10-over 294 on Tuesday at the Country Club of Birmingham Invitational; the Tigers’ two-day total of 18-over 586 has them in 11th place.
Tough scoring was the story of the day as no team in the field shot under par; the best team rounds of the day were by No. 4 Clemson and No. 19 Tennessee who turned in 1-over 285s. They are both tied for the team lead at 3-over 571.
Garrett Barber was the bright spot for the Purple and Gold on day two with a even par 71. His day consisted of a hot start by getting to 2-under through five holes before shooting 2-over par the rest of the way; he tallied four birdies, 10 pars, and four bogeys. Barber’s two day total of 3-over 145 (74-71) has him tied for 21st.
Freshman Nicholas Arcement carded a 1-over 72 on the heels of Barber to move him up twelve spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 26th at 4-over 146 (74-72). Arcement, starting on No. 10 with the rest of LSU, went out in 3-over 39, but steadied the ship with a 2-under 34 on the final nine to get in at 72 for the day.
Michael Sanders followed the same path as Arcement but rebounded strongly. Sanders found himself at 4-over through the first three holes before playing the final 15 holes (two birdies, 13 pars) at 2-under par to come in with a 2-over 73. Sanders is tied for 32nd overall at 5-over 147 (74-73).
Drew Doyle turned in a 7-over 78 to count as LSU’s final team score of the day. Doyle is in a tie for 38th at 6-over 148 (70-78). Connor Gaunt shot a 14-over 85 and Hayden White, who is playing as an individual, carded a 17-over 88. Gaunt (+19) and White (+26) are in 78th and 81st place, respectively.
