Track & Field Loads Up On Finalists At Texas Relays

Austin, Texas  –  Seven LSU track and field athletes qualified for Saturday’s finals on day two of the Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Saturday is lined up to be an extra competitive day at the 93rd running of the Texas Relays.

LSU advanced four out of its five women’s hurdlers to the finals of the 100 meter hurdles on Friday. Tonea Marshall led the way with 12.87, and the trio of Milan Young (13.07w), Alia Armstrong (13.16/PR), and Brittley Humphrey (13.23) advanced as well; all four women won their respective heats.

In the men’s 110 meter hurdles, Damion Thomas ran a very smooth season opener with a windy time of 13.53 to win his heat and advance. Eric Edwards Jr. won his heat as well with a time of 13.80 and will line up in the Saturday’s finals alongside Thomas at 2:25 p.m. CT.

In the field events, Amber Hart registered the best throw of her outdoor career in the shot put with a throw of 49′ 2.25″ (14.99 meters) to take sixth place and move into the No. 6 slot in the LSU record book. Rayvon Grey opened up with a long jump of 25′ 5.50″ to place sixth in the ‘A’ section of that event, and fellow senior Mercy Abire Matanmi leaped out to a mark of 20′ 11.75″ (6.39 meters) to place seventh in the women’s long jump. Freshman Ji’eem Bullock competed in the ‘B’ section of the men’s long jump and PR’d with a mark of 25′ 0.75″ (7.64 meters) to finish second in that flight.

The final track qualifiers from Friday were Thelma Davies and Charles Lewis in the 100 meters. Davies won her heat with a time of 11.33w, while Lewis advanced by winning his heat with a time of 10.51w.

The final day of the Texas Relays will take place on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. A full list of LSU competitors can be viewed below. The Longhorn Network will televise the meet starting at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday.
