Baton Rouge, La. – Throwers Monique Hardy and Jake Norris received SEC weekly honors for their performances in their outdoor season debuts at the Louisiana Classics. Hardy was named the SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week while Norris was awarded the SEC Men’s Co-Field Athlete of the Week.
Hardy, coming off of a strong indoor season, made her outdoor debut for the Tigers and made an immediate impact. Hardy won the hammer throw event by tossing a total distance of 211′ 6″ (64.46 meters) which ranks as the second best throw in school history. The freshman’s impressive outdoor debut is no surprise as she is coming off of an indoor season that included four gold medals and the SEC Women’s Freshman Field Athlete of the Year award.
Jake Norris also put together a strong season debut in the hammer throw as he won the event with a toss of 227′ 1″ (69.21 meters). His gold medal winning throw is the best mark in the nation in the early part of the outdoor track and field season.
The two field athletes will look to build off of their award-winning performances this weekend as they will compete in the Texas Relays which will take place on March 25-27.
