Baton Rouge, La. – Shannon Cooke of LSU soccer has been named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week after her performance in LSU’s two wins last week versus Baylor and Texas Tech.
Cooke was instrumental in LSU’s winning week leading the Tigers to two shutouts, scoring two goals, and playing all 180 minutes of action. She played the full 90 from the centerback position against Baylor on Thursday night to lead LSU to its fifth shutout of the season, and her goal came in the 27th minute and served as the game winner in the match. It was her first goal of the season.
Less than 48 hours later she returned to the pitch with her teammates and hleped LSU to its sixth clean sheet of the season; it was LSU’s fifth shutout in the last eight games. Once again Cooke scored from distance, this time off a free kick in the 29th minute to give LSU a 1-0 lead that would stand the full 90 and make the Tigers victorious.
Both goals scored by Cooke last week served as game winners and they were the third and fourth goals of her career. The previous two goals of her career came back in 2018 at the SEC Tournament when she was a freshman.
This marks the third time in the last four weeks that an LSU soccer player has earned SEC Player of the Week honors. A list below dates LSU’s previous winners this season:
