Pedigo, LaJocies Win Event Titles in Outdoor Debuts

Lafayette, La. –  Tzuriel Pedigo (javelin) and ­Ashley LaJocies (5,000 meters) opened up their outdoor collegiate careers for LSU on Friday with wins at the Louisiana Classics meet at Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Complex.

Pedigo, a Baton Rouge native, launched the javelin 207 feet, seven inches on his first attempt of the event and that mark stayed at the top for the rest of the event. Senior Andre Girouard opened his 2021 campaign with bronze in the javelin with a throw of 195′ 8″ (59.64 meters).

LaJocies and fellow freshman Adele Broussard ran to first and third place finishes in the women’s 5,000 meter race to cap the night. LaJocies ran a time of 17:31.20 and Broussard clocked in with a 17:49.51. It was the first collegiate 5k races for both LaJocies and Broussard.

In the women’s javelin, Noel Baker garnered a second place showing with a throw of 145′ 2″ (44.26 meters). Amber Hart made her LSU outdoor debut in the discus with a fifth-place finish with a final mark of 130′ 11″ (39.91 meters).

The Louisiana Classics will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT with the men’s weight throw. A full competition guide for Saturday can be viewed above.
