Soccer Picks Up 2-1 Win Over Florida

Baton Rouge, La. – The LSU soccer team (6-8-3) used some late game dramatics to pick up a 2-1 win over Florida (4-8-2) on Sunday afternoon at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. Molly Thompson scored the gamewinner in the 89th minute with a header from inside the six to give LSU its sixth win of the season.

Final Stats

The first half featured balance play with Florida registering six shots and LSU tallying four. It was Reese Moffatt’s Olimpico in the 41st minute that gave the Tigers a lead heading into the half. Taking the corner, Moffatt’s service into the box went untouched and curled into the goal to give the Tigers advantage; it was Moffatt’s first career goal of her collegiate career.

The Gators went on to equalize the match in the 69th minute as Beata Olsson squeezed a shot past LSU goalkeeper Mollee Swift; Swift had four saves in the match to pick up her fifth win of the season in net.

A level match headed late into the game, the Tigers took a throw in. Maddie Moreau played a one touch back to Reese Moffatt who’s cross went into the six. Junior forward Molly Thompson was on the other end of the cross and headed home the gamewinner in the 89th minute; it was her fifth goal of the season.

It was LSU’s third win against Florida and the first since 2011.
