LEXINGTON, KY. – The LSU diving team completed day two of the 2021 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships today in Lexington, Kentucky, as they looked to punch more tickets to the NCAA Championships. The Tigers will be back on the boards tomorrow starting at 10 a.m CT from inside the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
Juan Celaya-Hernandez punched his second NCAA ticket this season, and the 11th of his career as he finished in second place on platform with a score of 793.80. He began the morning with a prelim score of 439.95 and dove to a score of 299.85 in the finals. Celaya-Hernandez qualified on three-meter a day ago.
For the women, Montserrat Gutierrez Lavenant clinched her second NCAA bid of the week as the freshman finished in 10th place on three-meter with a score of 629.65. Gutierrez Lavenant has now qualified for both springboard events as she qualified on one-meter yesterday.
Anne Tuxen officially punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships as she finished in eighth place on three-meter. She dove to a prelim score of 324.90 and a final score of 314.10 for a total score of 639.00 to clinch her third NCAA bid of her career.
Helle Tuxen just missed out on qualifying for the NCAA Championships as the freshman finished in 18th place on three-meter with a total score of 566.45.
“It was another great day at Zones,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “It was great to see Anne punch her ticket and even better to see Juan and Montserrat add to their list of NCAA events. I am looking forward to another day of opportunities tomorrow.”
