No. 19 LSU Falls to Ole Miss 4-0

Baton Rouge, La. – The No. 19 LSU Women’s Tennis team fell by a score of 4-0 to the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday evening at the LSU Tennis Complex.

With the loss, LSU falls to 8-2 overall and 3-2 in SEC play, while Ole Miss improves to 6-5 and 2-3 in conference play.

Selling Points

“Credit to Ole Miss tonight,” co-head coach Michael Sell. “This match was a lot closer than it shows as we had leads on all the other courts. We just need to create a few more opportunities for ourselves. We’re proud of this team , and we will regroup and be ready for Sunday.”

Doubles Results

The No. 14-ranked doubles duo of senior Eden Richardson and sophomore Nina Geissler grabbed their second ranked win of the dual season, defeating No. 24 Alexa Bortles and Sabina Machalova by a score of 6-3 at the No. 1 doubles.

Ole Miss got one back at the No. 3 when Tiphanie Fiquet and Lillian Gabrielsen held off a late charge from seniors Taylor Bridges and Paris Corley to win 6-4 and even the doubles scoreline.

The Rebels clinched the doubles point at the No. 2, where No. 44 Tereza Janatova and Anna Vrbenska claimed a 6-4 victory over sophomores Safiya Carrington and Maggie Cubitt.

Singles Results

Ole Miss made it 2-0 on the night after Fiquet defeated No. 83 Carrington by a score of 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 2 singles.At the No. 4, Vrbenska defeated Richardson to extend Ole Miss’ lead to 3-0. Vrbenska took the first set 6-2 before going on to win the second by a score of 6-1.

The match was clinched at the No. 1, where No. 43 Machalova defeated No. 41 Bridges in straight sets. Machalova won the first set 6-2 and carried momentum into the second, winning 6-1 and securing Ole Miss’ 4-0 victory over the Tigers.
