Alexander and Swift Earn SEC Player of the Week Honors

Baton Rouge, La. Tinaya Alexander (offensive) and Mollee Swift (defensive) of LSU soccer were named the SEC Players of the Week in their respective categories on Monday by the conference office.

Alexander registered her third brace of the season in Sunday’s 2-1 comeback win over South Alabama. Her first goal of the match came in the 53rd minute to level things up for the Tigers. Wasila Diwura-Soale started the play in the middle of the pitch with a nice ball out to the right flank to Savannah Mills. Mills crossed the ball into the six where Alexander headed home her sixth goal of the season.

Alexander’s game winner came from the penalty spot in the 69th minute. Meghan Johnson played Alexander into the right side of the box where she was fouled by a South Alabama defender. She stepped up and nailed the penalty kick to give LSU the lead; it was her seventh goal of the season which is a career high.

Swift was phenomenal in net for LSU allowing only one goal in 200 minutes of play. She picked up her second solo shutout of the season in LSU’s Friday night nil-nil draw at Auburn. She made seven saves in that match and then had four on Sunday night against South Alabama. Her goals averaged against number for the 2020-21 season sits 1.13 for the season.

It is the first time that Alexander and Swift have been honored with the SEC Athlete of the Week award.
