Baton Rouge, La. – LSU senior standout JuVaughn Harrison was awarded the Cliff Harper Trophy on Saturday after the conclusion of the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The trophy is awarded to the high point scorer of the conference meet.
Harrison won two SEC event titles in a span of two and a half hours on Friday afternoon at the Randal Tyson Track Center. His two wins equated to 20 total points and earned him the trophy. He first won the high jump with a clearance of 7′ 2.50″ (2.20 meters) before moving over to the long jump and winning with a personal best mark of 27′ 4″ (8.33 meters). The mark of 27′ 4″ was an SEC meet record, LSU school record, matched the 2021 world lead, and it made him the fifth best performer in collegiate history.
A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Harrison has won five SEC individual titles and two NCAA individual titles. In 2019, he became the first man in NCAA outdoor championship history to sweep high jump and long jump national titles at the same meet. Harrison has been a mainstay on The Bowerman Watch List ever since that meet. The Bowerman is presented to the most outstanding collegiate track and field athlete each year. He was a 2019 semifinalist for the award and has appeared on the watch list four times in his career.
