Curry Claims 100 Free Silver to Close Out SEC Championships

COLUMBIA, MO. – The LSU men’s swimming team closed out the 2021 SEC Championships with a bang as Brooks Curry brought him his third medal of the meet and set another school record. Along with Curry, David Boylan closed out the meet by swimming a career best time in the 200-Yard Butterfly.

“Overall there were obviously a great deal of highlights over the last four days,” said LSU head swim coach Dave Geyer. “When you rewrite the history book a little with school records or podium finishes it is something to hang your hat on but only for a few days. We have a very youthful team. I am proud of the small group of men we brought to the meet. I am excited for the postseason but I am also excited for next season as we continue to build something special.”

In the first individual event for the Tigers, Curry claimed the silver in the 100-Yard Freestyle with a school record time of 41.80. The silver medal marks Curry’s third medal of the week and the fifth of his career.

In the 200-Yard Breaststroke, Luca Pfyffer finished in 14th place in the ‘B’ Final with a time of 1:56.44. In the ‘C’ Final, Mitch Mason finished in 23rd place with a time of 1:57.73.

In the final individual event of the night, Boylan improved his eighth best time in school history by swimming a 1:45.80 to finish in 19th place in the ‘C’ Final.

To close out the championship, the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay team of Curry, Emil Hassling, Jack Jannasch, and Spencer Adrian finished in seventh place with a time of 2:53.56.
