Where We Left Off

LSU made a valiant run to the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament in mid November to close out play during the fall portion of the schedule. The Tigers picked up two wins against Alabama and No. 14 Ole Miss at the conference tournament before dropping a well contested 1-0 loss to No. 8 Texas A&M in the quarterfinals.

Rammie Noel and Maya Gordon were named to the All-SEC Second Team for their assertive play in the fall; it was the first SEC honors of their career. Gordon (1,032 minutes) and fellow center back Reese Moffatt (996 minutes) were mainstays on the pitch all fall long. Noel played everywhere on the pitch and factored into almost every contest; she scored LSU’s first goal of the season in the Tigers’ 2-1 loss at Mississippi State on October 11.

Tinaya Alexander has been the offensive catalyst for the Tigers with 11 points tallied on five goals and an assist; the five goals are already a career high for a season. Alexander averaged 0.56 goals per match which rank second in the SEC and 14th nationally.

Sophomore Meghan Johnson logged 739 minutes of play in the fall and has a team high three assists on the season. Redshirt freshman Taylor Dobles ranks No. 2 on the team in points with eight banking off three goals and two assists in 807 minutes of playing time.

Mollee Swift proved herself in goal with a GAA of 1.32 in 10 matches played. She registered a save percentage of .794 in the fall and the first shutout of her LSU career came on November 13 in LSU’s 2-0 win over Alabama at the SEC Tournament. She made 10 saves in that match, one of which was deemed a SportsCenter Top 10 play.

Series History – Southern Miss

This will be meeting No. 4 between the two programs. LSU has won the first three games in the series, outscoring the Golden Eagles by a tally of 8-1. It was a road win in Hattiesburg in 2006 before a pair of 3-0 wins in Baton Rouge in 2007 and 2009.
