Tuxen Qualifies for One-Meter Final on Day One of SEC Championships
ATHENS, GA. —The LSU Women’s Swimming and Diving teams kicked off the SEC Championships on Wednesday from inside the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia and Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Missouri.
The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday with swimming prelims beginning at 9 a.m. CT and diving prelims beginning at 11 a.m CT.
IN THE POOL
To begin the night in Athens, the team of Katarina Milutinovich, Emilie Boll, Hannah Bellina and Olivia Taylor finished ninth in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:39.19. In the 800-Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Milutinovich, Summer Stanfield, Bellina and Sarah Grace Thompson finished in eighth place with a time of 7:09.37.
“We felt like today was a great start to our meet,” said LSU head swim coach Dave Geyer. “We have some very young relays with just freshmen and sophomores on it right now. As always, they stepped up and showed some positive signs for our program moving forward this week.”
ON THE BOARDS
In Columbia, the Tiger divers began their SEC Championship journey with the Women’s One-Meter Springboard. Anne Tuxen led the way for the Tigers in the prelim with a score of 281.80. Her sixth place finish landed her a spot in the Final, where she finished in sixth place with a score of 283.90.
Montserrat Gutierrez Lavenant finished in 13th place in the prelim with a score of 262.20. Hayley Montague finished in 31st place with a score of 209.45.
“I am so proud of the ladies,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “Anne (Tuxen) made her first SEC One-Meter Final and Montserrat (Gutierrez Lavenant) was close to making the final but did an outstanding job in her first SEC Championship competition. I am also very proud of Hayley’s (Montague) efforts.”
