Men’s Golf Tied For Fifth at Vanderbilt Legends Intercollegiate
Baton Rouge, La. – LSU carded its lowest round of the season thanks to season lows by Garrett Barber (-6) and Connor Gaunt (-4) on day one of the Vanderbilt Legends Intercollegiate. The Tigers combined to shoot a 8-under 276 to position themselves in a tie for fifth after 18 holes of play at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Garrett Barber is one shot off the lead in a tie for fourth place with his 6-under 65. The junior had a solid round going through 13 holes at 1-under for the day before he closed out the round with five straight birdies on Nos. 14-18 to propel him way up the leaderboard. It marks the fifth time in his career that he has registered seven or more birdies in a round.
Connor Gaunt fired his lowest round in an LSU uniform with a 4-under 67 to sit in a tie for eighth place. Gaunt struggled early on as he was 3-over through seven holes, but he did not let that deter him one bit. He answered with seven birdies on his final 10 holes, including four in a row to close out the round, to finish with his 67.
Philip Barbaree and Drew Doyle turned in counting scores of 1-over 72s, and Trey Winstead closed out the day for the Tigers with a 2-over 73. Barbaree and Doyle are tied for 46th and Winstead is in a tie for 55th.
The host, Vanderbilt, is currently the clubhouse team leader at 13-under 271. Three players are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under, one stroke ahead of Barber.
LSU will tee off on Monday at 9:50 a.m. CT for round two of the event. Winstead will be the first Tiger to go off No. 1 and will be followed in 10-minute increments by Doyle, Barbaree, Gaunt, and Barber.
