Women's Tennis Travels for SEC Challenge

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The LSU women’s tennis team will play in its final tournament of the fall season when they participate in the SEC Challenge hosted by Alabama at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium, beginning on Friday, October 23 and concluding on Sunday, October 25.

The SEC Challenge will consist of one round of doubles competition followed by a round of singles each day. LSU is joined by hosts Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss as participating teams. Live video is available for this weekend’s action, with outdoor streaming available here. Live stats will not be available, with results being posted to lsusports.net once finalized.

Selling Points

“Perfect timing for our last competition of the fall,” co-head coach Michael Sell said. “We want to continue the momentum of match play from last tournament and the positive improvements we made in this week’s practice. We believe in this team and everyone is excited to compete against other SEC opponents.”

Tiger Tidbits 

Last time out, the Tigers enjoyed a successful weekend at the Texas A&M Fall Invite. Senior Paris Corley led the team in singles action, posting a perfect 3-0 record against players from Rice, Texas, and Texas Tech to take her win total to five, a team-high. Fellow seniors Taylor Bridges and Eden Richardson also had success, earning wins in singles and doubles competition.

Junior Anna Loughlan picked up her first wins of the season in singles play against opponents from Texas State. Loughlan also picked up her first win in doubles play, partnering with Richardson in a 6-2 win.

The sophomore trio of Safiya Carrington, Maggie Cubitt, and Nina Geissler have picked up thirteen wins in singles and doubles competition this fall. Freshman Samantha Buyckx has had a successful start to her collegiate career, picking up three singles and four doubles win in her first two tournaments.
