Women’s Golf Still in 2nd at Blessings Collegiate Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The LSU women’s golf team maintained its hold on second place at the inaugural Blessings Collegiate Invitational after the second round today in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

“It was another solid day of competition that puts us in position to win tomorrow,” said LSU women’s golf head coach Garrett Runion. “We got off to a better start and played steadier today. We didn’t make as many birdies today, but was pleased with the way everyone stayed focused during the 7-hour-plus round. Five-somes on a difficult course and working with the Golf Channel crew makes for a long day, but we finished the last two holes with a couple of birdies to match yesterday’s round.”

LSU started on the back nine at 2-under and finished at 5-over for the round matching their first round score of 293. The Tigers are in second place with a 10-over 586, 10 strokes behind the leaders, and the host, Arkansas at even 576.

Sophomore Latanna Stone made the biggest jump of the day in the standings by shooting a 1-under 71 and moving into a tie for fourth place, up eight spots from yesterday’s tie for 12th place. She was matched by classmate Ingrid Lindblad who also shot 1-under 71 on the day and is in second place in the individual standings. Lindblad is five strokes off the lead and remains in contention for the individual title.

Freshman Carla Tejedo Mulet contributed a 3-over 75 and senior Kendall Griffin chipped in with a 4-over 76 to complete the team scoring and keep LSU in the top two on the leaderboard.

“I’m very pleased with the way Kendall bounced back after her rough first round yesterday. That shows her senior maturity and leadership. Now we need to get a good night’s rest and try to chase down a very good Arkansas team on their home course tomorrow.”

LSU will tee off at 10:05 a.m. from No. 1 for the final round on Wednesday morning. Teams are competing in single groupings to maintain SEC COVID-19 protocols. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.

In the combined team scoring with the LSU men’s team, the Tigers have a slim hold on second place at 25-over behind host Arkansas. Lindblad and LSU men’s senior Trey Winstead are in a tie for second place in the coed best ball pairings at 16-under. The men are scheduled to tee off at 8:36 a.m. from No. 10.
