Lindblad and Stone Named to 2020-21 ANNIKA Award Preseason Watch List

BATON ROUGE – LSU women’s golf history was made today as two Tigers have been named to the prestigious ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel Watch List. Sophomores Ingrid Lindblad and Latanna Stone are among 30 collegiate women’s golfers named to the preseason list expected to compete in the 2020-21 season.

Created in 2014, the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel is annually given to the top female U.S. collegiate golfer; the winner voted on by players, coaches and members of the golf media. Named for and presented by Annika Sorenstam, the award was created in partnership with the Haskins Commission to acknowledge the top female golfer at the end of the season.

“It’s a big deal when you have a player named to the ANNIKA Award Watch List and to have two named is something special,” said LSU head coach Garrett Runion. “(Assistant Coach) Alexis (Rather) and I see it every day at practice how hard they work and make those around them better. They are great players and teammates. We are looking forward to what these two and their teammates can accomplish this season.”

Lindblad, a native of Halmstad, Sweden, was a 2019-20 Top-3 finalist for the ANNIKA Award following a record-setting rookie season in the purple and gold. She became the second Tiger to be named a finalist in the seven previous seasons of the award program, joining fellow Swede Madelene Sagstrom, who was LSU’s first finalist in 2015. Lindblad also received an invitation to the 2020 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, which has been deferred to 2021, and was selected to the International Team for the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup, scheduled for December 21-23 at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida.

Stone becomes the third LSU player to have her name connected to the ANNIKA Award. The Riverview, Florida, native also had a successful freshman season for LSU and was rewarded by being selected to the United States Team of the Arnold Palmer Cup.

Both student-athletes were named to the Golfweek All-America Teams, All-SEC Teams and the SEC All-Freshman Team. Lindblad also received WGCA All-America honors and was the first LSU player to be named SEC Golfer of the Year and Freshman of the Year.

Lindblad posted the lowest single-season average in LSU history with a 70.33. She finished the season ranked No. 2 by Golfweek and No. 9 by Golfstat. She shot 14 of 21 rounds of par or under over seven tournaments. She recorded five Top-5 finishes with two wins at the Magnolia Invitational (October 14-16, 2019) and the Florida State Match-Up (February 29-March 1, 2020). Lindblad shot a career single-round low of 6-under 66 to start the Spring season in the first round of the IJGA Collegiate Invitational on February 16, 2020.

Stone was second on the team with a 72.56 average and shot six of her 18 rounds at par/under. She ranked No. 38 in the NCAA by Golfstat and No. 24 in the SEC. Her top finish was second at the Battle at the Beach (November 1-3, 2019). She posted three Top-10 finishes in six tournaments.

LSU, ranked No. 12 at the abrupt end of last season, will begin the 2020-21 season at The Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on October 5-7. All three rounds will be broadcast on the Golf Channel.
