Beach’s Shank Named AVCA Junior All-American

BATON ROUGE – LSU Beach Volleyball freshman Ellie Shank was named to the recently announced American Volleyball Coaches Association Junior Beach All-America Honorable Mention team.

The Eastborough, Kansas native is the only player from the Sunflower State to earn a spot on the AVCA Junior All-America squad. She is the second player from Kansas to join the LSU Beach program, joining junior Allison Coens who is from Lenexa, Kansas.

Shank is the fourth Tiger to earn a spot on the AVCA Junior All-America Team. She joins senior Claire Coppola, sophomore Sierra Caffo and 2019 LSU graduate Ashley Allmer to earn a spot on the squad.

Shank has been a consistent First-Team All-Leaguer since her freshman season at Valley Center High School in Wichita, Kansas. Last season the 5-9 athlete earned All-State Honorable Mention and was a member of the All-State Academic team too. Over the Summer of 2019, Shank finished second at the 18U AAU Junior Olympics in Santa Monica, California and third at the Junior National Championship in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

“Ellie is a highly decorated and successful beach player,” Brock said. “She has been impressing people with her athleticism and execution on beaches all over the country for the past few summers.  Ellie is a really strong player who is incredibly fast and skilled.  She plays with a fierceness that is fitting for a Tiger. Her impact on our program will be immediate and powerful.”
