Wilson, Vazquez Bas Qualify for NCAA’s on Day One of Zones

Dallas – LSU divers Aimee Wilson and Manny Vazquez Bas both qualified for the 2020 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with their performances on day one of the 2020 NCAA Zone D Diving Regional. The regional will continue tomorrow, March 10 and will run through Wednesday, March 11.

Wilson finished in seventh place on one-meter, well inside the top 11, to qualify for the same event at the NCAA Championships in Athens, Georgia. The sophomore dove to a score of 277.55 in the prelim session before scoring a 288.20 in the final. 

Vazquez Bas finished in fifth place on three-meter to secure a spot at NCAA’s as the top-nine punched their ticket to Indianapolis, Indiana for the Men’s NCAA Championships. Vazquez Bas dove to a score of 337.40 in the prelim before diving to a score of 372.15 in the final.

Also for the Tigers, Hayley Montague just missed out on a qualifying spot as the freshman dove to a total score of 510.30 to finish in 16th place. On the men’s side, Dakota Hurbis finished in 18th place with a total score of 627.95.

The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT from the Robson & Lindley Aquatic Center and Barr-Mcmillion Natatorium on the campus of SMU. The women will compete on three-meter and the men will take on the one-meter.
